1) Two African elephants dancing the quickstep in your head? That pounding
headache is caused by the dehydrated brain shrinking in size, pulling on the
membranes that attach it to the skull. Eek! Ease the pain with Peppermint. Make a soothing compress by adding a few drops to a damp flannel and
placing on your forehead or back of neck. Don’t have any oil? Chuck a couple of Peppermint tea bags in cold water.
2) Queasy at the thought of food? Alcohol irritates the digestive system, resulting in nausea and high stomach acidity. Put down the coffee (it'll only make you feel worse) and add a few slices of ginger root to a mug of warm water. Ginger has been a go-to hangover cure for centuries due to it's stomach settling properties. A squeeze of lemon and honey adds vital vitamins, balances pH levels and assists removal of toxins.
3) Ache all over? Your body is in overdrive breaking down and eliminating the booze. Give it a helping hand with a detoxifying bath. Add a couple of drops of Rosemary and Lime essential oils to a cup of Epsom bath salts. Known as a liver tonic, Rosemary may be the ultimate hangover herb as it also eases aching muscles and clears the mind. Lime uplifts and energises and the sulphate in epsom salts draw out toxins through the skin.
If all else fails, you're granted permission to crawl back into bed (you're welcome). Sleep is repair mode, so allow your body to sort out the mess you've made and wake up when it's over!
