Let’s face it, after splashing out on gifts and hitting the sales hard, most of us find ourselves strapped for cash at this point in January. However, that doesn’t mean you have to neglect your beauty regime.
Turn your home into a spa with these every day items you already have in your kitchen cupboards...
1.Glow your oats... tackle winter ravaged skin with porridge.
Oats contain avenanthramide, an anti-inflammatory and antioxidant compound that brightens skin. Make a radiance boosting face scrub by mixing a handful of oats with a little full fat milk and honey and apply to the face, avoiding the eye area.
2.Be bright eyed and bushy tailed with posh tea.
Got dark circles and eye bags as a result of a few too many late nights? Brew a pot of Earl Grey tea, then apply the cooled tea bags to your eyes. Tea contains astrigent tannins that tighten skin, reducing puffiness. Why Earl Grey? For the wonderfully uplifting scent of Bergamot of course!
3.Banish a bad moo’d with cow juice
Soak your troubles away with a luxury bath on a shoestring budget. Add a few drops of your favourite essential oil to half a cup of full fat milk or cream. Our favourite essential oils for the bath are Cedarwood, Lavender and Neroli. Udder heaven!
4.Grab a glass of water to shine from inside out
Most of us are guilty of not drinking enough fluids, but this simple habit can result in plumper skin, shinier hair and sparkling eyes. Drinking up to eight glasses a day will also keep you slimmer, as you’ll be less likely to reach for the biscuits mistaking thirst for hunger.
5.Scrub for pout perfection
Mix brown sugar, honey & olive oil and apply for irresistibly kissable lips.
6.Have a cracking good hair day
Egg yolk is rich in moisturising protein and fats whilst enzymes in egg whites gently clean and remove build up, making it the perfect hair mask. For normal hair use the whole egg; for dry hair just the yolk and for oily hair only use the egg white. Apply from roots to ends; leave for twenty minutes before rinsing with cool water.
7.Treat your hard working feet
Try this moisturising foot mask just before going to bed. Mash half a banana with a tablespoon of honey, apply to feet, wrap in cling film and pop on some socks. Leave overnight before washing off for baby soft soles.
8.Revive rough hands with amazing avocado
Rich in fatty acids and antioxidants, avocado oil is easily absorbed by the skin. Mash one quarter of an avocado and massage into your hands for a minute before rinsing off. Do this twice daily for two days for super smooth mitts.
9. Pearly whites, courtesy of mother nature
For a winning smile, try this simple solution - apply a mixture of baking soda, lemon juice and strawberries to your teeth with a toothbrush. Don’t over do it though - only use this treatment once a week as the fruit acids can weaken tooth enamel.
10. Ditch the dimples with coffee
Coffee stimulates circulation and contains caffeic acid which can boost collagen production, firming saggy skin. Mix a handful of coffee grounds with a little olive oil and massage into cellulite prone areas for sexy pins and a pert posterior.
