On your first appointment a consultation is important to establish if it is safe to give a treatment, this will help establish your expectations of the treatment and help adjust a treatment plan accordingly.
You will be asked for information about your previous medical history, the most important information however can be discussed on the phone at the time that you make your appointment. This would save a wasted journey if it were found to be unwise to treat you because your condition was contraindicated. A consultation is a requirement of many insurance policies.
Your dignity and modesty
Your modesty and privacy are of utmost importance. With reflexology the only clothes that you need to remove are your shoes, socks and tights, you will be given the option of a blanket. Pressure and relaxation techniques are applied to the feet, a treatment will last about one hour. A reliner type chair is available for reflexology however I find a treatment couch to be generally more suitable.
Your therapist should always check that the pressure that is being used is a comfortable pressure. You should feel comfortable to tell the therapist to use more or less pressure as necessary.
Following a treatment you will be encouraged to drink some water. Following some treatments there may very occasionally be a healing reaction. You may feel tired, there may sometimes be a slight headache or you presenting symptoms may get slightly worse for a short time.
It is important in the 24 hours following a treatment to try and increase your fluid intake try and get plenty of rest and avoid spicy foods, alcohol, coffee and tea. Healing reactions are rare and normally a treatment should be a relaxing and enjoyable experience.
For a first appointment please allow up to one and a half hours, for subsequent appointments please allow one hour.
